How to Get Interior Design Customers

Getting interior design customers is always the main question on new designers' lips. After all, customers are the lifeblood of a business.

In this post, I'm going to share with you some of our top tips on how to get interior design customers.

1. GET COMFORTABLE WITH BEING VISIBLE

The most important thing that you can do if you want to get more interior design customers is to first off become comfortable with being visible.

What do I mean by that?

Well, it means if you want to have customers, you are going to have to get comfortable with the idea of people knowing who you are, knowing what you do and getting used to seeing you and your work on social media and on websites.

Although it is really tempting to want to keep yourself hidden, you simply cannot hide your light under a bushel when you are the face of your business. If you want to get some more customers in, you need to make sure that you're getting out there.

2: GET OUT THERE!

If tip number one was to make sure that you are comfortable with being seen, tip number two, then is to actually get out there and get yourself seen!

You need to be visible, you need to be seen and you can do that using a variety of methods. Social media is one of the easiest ways to get yourself seen: you can reach out to people and start conversations, you can do videos to showcase your expertise.

The key to being visible is to do it regularly! It's no good posting one thing and then not doing anything for a couple of weeks and then posting something else! That is no way to build up an audience on social media. That is not the way to get new customers coming in!

So make sure that you have content planned out in advance, and that you are posting regularly and consistently.

3: SHARE CONTENT WITH A PURPOSE

Our next tip is to make sure that you are sharing content that has a purpose. What do we mean by purpose?

Whenever you're going to share something on social media, make sure that you're clear about why you're sharing it.

Is it because you want to get more followers on social media? Is it that you want to showcase your expertise? Is it that you want to invite people to come to an event with you? Is it that you want to showcase some work that you've been working on because you're trying to get people to phone you or make an inquiry? Is it that you want to put an offer out in front of people?

Whatever content you put out there, don't just post random content for no reason at all. Really think about what you're trying to achieve with your content before you post it.

4: LEVERAGE PRESS AND PR

A really good way of getting new customers in and getting seen and getting visible is to use your local press opportunities. Now I know that that can sound a bit scary, but believe you me, there is no better way of getting out in front of people then by spreading the word about you and your business.

So contact your local radio stations and see if they'll interview you. Contact with local newspapers, have a look at your local community magazines and see if they're prepared to write an article about you, about your new business, and to see if they can help you to get new customers into your business.

I know that's scary, but in step one we talked about being more comfortable with being visible and this is just an extension of that. So get yourself out there and see what press and PR opportunities there are in your local area.

5: THINK LOCAL

And our final tip is to make sure that you are making use of the things in your local area that are going to get you known. So I'm talking about local groups, local Facebook groups, local community groups.

You want to be getting known by people because people buy from people.

People buy from people that they know, people that they like and people that they trust.

And so you want to be beginning to build that within your local community. I can't tell you how many times I've got referrals for interior design work because of somebody that has been asking in a Facebook group and said, does anybody know of an interior designer? And my friend's family, previous customers, people that know me in the local community who have jumped in and said, yeah, absolutely Kate's the best!

And this will also happen for you too. You need to get your name out there and your local community. So make those local connections, make local friends and make sure that everybody knows what you're doing for a living.

If there's one thing that I want you to take away from today's video is to make sure that you're getting out there and that you're being seen and being visible.
